Digital music production & sound engeneering course | 1 Year (First Year)

Please note that we only have a few places left in our Feb 2012 intake - Contact EMENDY admissions department to enquire about remaining slots available before registering!

This Higher National Certificate course is the first step to becoming a well rounded and skilled music producer and sound engineer as well as developing a career in music that is future orientated. This course empowers students to gain access to a multitude of opportunities on offer in the audio field with the advent of the digital music technology age.
With the latest in music technology you can now become (1) the musician, playing or programming almost any instrument or sound imaginable via an ordinary keyboard controller and VSTi’s, (2) the engineer, setting up and recording live instruments or vocals and (3) the producer, in control of facets such as the organization of studio sessions, as well as creative aspects such as mixing, mastering and the finalization of the final production.

ABOUT THE COURSE

The DMP course is a one-year NQF level 5 national higher certificate course and introduces you to the latest technology in music making which includes both digital music production via computer as well as live and studio sound engineering. You will be taught the entire process of producing music, from the basic principles of sound, sequencing, recording etc. up to the final mixing and mastering process onto CD, whether in a professional studio or project studio environment.

From day one students will be involved with real industry scenarios and live events all around Gauteng where they will get hands-on practical experience.

This includes creative aspects of music production - drum & instrument sequencing, production technique, music theory, sound synthesis & design, music business, entrepreneurship and much more – thus covering a much broader spectrum of information and therefore providing better career opportunities.

The music business subject focuses on all the aspects of the South African Music industry including topics such as Recording Companies, Music Industry Contracts, Publishing, Copywriting and more.T

This course is ideal for people with or without any prior musical skills or experience that want to start a career in music production through technology.

EMENDY College provides recording facilities that are available to our students for the duration of their studies. This first year full-time course is followed by the AMP (Advanced music production) course, which is a NQF level 6- diploma course. For more information regarding advancement to this second year full-time course, refer to the specific information brochure or speak to an EMENDY representative.

COURSE OPPORTUNITIES & OUTCOMES

This course will provide you with the skills to produce music for various applications in the music industry: Live sound, backing tracks, theatre, musicals, TV & radio advertisement, corporate presentations etc.; you will also be able to edit (cut, copy, paste & manipulate) existing music and sounds for dance artists, gym instructors, etc.; (copyright); do professional recordings; make your own backing tracks for yourself or others and of course, release your own music on CD.

emendy05   More and more record companies and labels make use of ordinary home production studios (outsourcing) due to the more cost effective and new creative ideas out there. With music technology most of the processes happen in a digital environment with the effect of little or no sound quality loss.

This means that the producer can work from an ordinary home production studio where only the dry recordings of voices or instruments are recorded in an expensive professional recording studio and later incorporated in the mix.

With music technology more creative aspects and processes of music are available that opens up a wide variety of career opportunities. Please enquire for a music technology career opportunity list.

SOFTWARE & HARDWARE

The course is mainly based on Cubase, Pro-Tools (Music production & recording software), Reason, as well as other industry standard music production and recording software and hardware.

Once enrolled, a STUDENT automatically qualifies for student discount on all software and hardware at ORANGE Music retail shop for up to 50%. This one time opportunity only applies for registered students for the duration of their studies.
