The next intake starts on Saturday the 22nd of September 2012. This course covers the fundamental aspects of music production and sound engineering and is ideal for those individuals who intend to get a glimpse into the world of sound technology. The course also covers the creation of backing tracks for use in performances.

Admission

Q. What are the preliminary requirements for studying at EMENDY?
A. In order to be considered for admission to EMENDY, you should first possess a true desire to be a part of this industry. Other requirements include grade 10, computer and English literacy and a basic musical aptirude.
Q. How do I enrol for a course?
A. The first step in the enrolment process is to speak to an EMENDY representative; this will give you the opportunity to ask us any questions you might have, and, most importantly, determine whether you are enrolling for the correct course. Once you've decided to enrol, you will need to complete an application form and pay the registration fee. You will also have to hand in two ID photos, a copy of your ID as well as a copy of the ID of the payee(s) or guardian(s) responsible for all payments during your studies. Should you make use of our monthly payment options a proof of income is required for the payees. After you have enrolled, your course deposit or full amount is required one week prior to the commencement of your first class.
Q. Can I register online, via post or fax?
A. You may download an application form here. You may fax or email the completed registration form accompanied by your proof of payment, copies of the relevant ID documentation as well as proof of income to +27 (0)12 342 1178 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please note that registration will only be completed once all required documentation has been submitted, after which your placement will be reserved.
Q. Do you offer daily pre-submission tours of the college?
A. Yes we do, prospective students may visit the college any time during office hours from Monday to Friday between 10:00am and 5:00pm. A college representative will be on hand to answer all your questions and to facilitate a tour of the college facilities during your visit. Please contact the admissions department to schedule your tour.
Q. When does the next course start?
A. EMENDY’s full-time courses commence during the first week of February each year. Our intermediate six-month courses are presented twice a year and commences during the first week of February and again in the first week of July. Our introductory 3-month course is presented three times a year commencing during the first weeks of February, May and August. Deadlines for application is one week prior to the commencement of a course intake. We strongly recommend applying as early as possible as there is limited placement and enrolment is done on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Q. Does registration secure my course placement?
A. After registration (including registration payment), you will be registered for a timeslot.  Student placement will only be secured after payment of the monthly installment deposit (or full course payment).
Q. Can I cancel my course during a semester?
A. You may cancel your full-time course during the first two weeks after commencement of the course, provided that you submit a cancellation form obtainable from EMENDY. After the two-week notice period you are bound for the duration of the course. Cancellations after the two week period needs to be made in writing 3 months in advance on the cancellation form obtainable from EMENDY. No cancellation is permitted for short courses after commencement of the first class. No refunds will be issued.
Q. What are the submission requirements for international students?
A. In addition to regular admission requirements international students have to provide a valid study permit, proof of residential address as well as the contact details of their landlord. A preliminary invitation letter will be provided as required by all foreign embassies. Please note that monthly payment options only apply to students with South African residency.
Q. Does EMENDY offer financial aid?
A. Should you require financial aid EMENDY provides a list of institutions that offers scholarships in the field of performing arts and music here. We also provide contact details for banking institutions should you require a study loan here.

Q. How long has EMENDY been providing music technology education?
A. EMENDY Sound & Music Technology College was founded in 2001, being the first music technology college providing music production training additional to sound engineering educatio.
Q. What is the quality of EMENDY's facilities?
A. EMENDY’s high tech and modern classrooms and facilities provide futuristic, creative and friendly atmosphere. All learning areas are fitted with up to date PC and MAC systems, containing the latest music software. All music related equipment fitted in the classrooms and studios are carefully selected to ensure that students are trained on the most commonly used equipment and software used in most professional environments. Q. How many students attend at EMENDY College annually?
A. EMENDY’s computer labs and theoretical classrooms make provision for no more than 16 students at a time. Approximately 150 students graduate from the various courses presented at EMENDY each year.
Q. Do you offer any accommodation?
A. EMENDY does not provide accommodation on campus but has details to estate agents, student accommodation companies and hostels, providing student accommodation in the general vicinity. For more details – go here.
Q. Does the college offer food and refreshments?
A. EMENDY provides onsite vending- and coffee machines. We also provide a full self-help or ala cart caffeteria at our theory lectures facilities.  Other food shops and restaurants are located less than 800m from the campus.
Q. What is the Hatfield area like?
A. Hatfield is known for its rich student life. The area contains shopping centres, restaurants, a post office, banking institutions as well as “The Square” which provides various forms of student entertainment activities, pubs, clubs etc. The University of Pretoria, Loftus Stadium, High Performance Centre, and the Gautrain are some of the attractions in the Hatfield area - all in a 1km radius from campus.
Q. How close is the nearest bus stop / train station from the college?
A. The nearest bust stop is at the entrance to EMENDY College. The nearest train station and final stop for the Gautrain is within 800m from the EMENDY campus see EMENDY Map.
Q. What is the student life like at EMENDY?
A. To be part of the EMENDY family is an experience of a lifetime. The students have their own representative council within the college. Students at EMENDY describe the atmosphere as being “vibrant and electrical” and each year they get to take part in activities like talent shows, group projects, live events, mid and end-year functions, field trips and more. Many student collaborations are as a result of friendships formed during their studies.
Q. Does EMENDY have other campuses other than the campus in Pretoria?
A. The Hatfield campus is currently the only campus in South Africa. We wish to accommodate local and international students by facilitating various resources such as accommodation, bursaries, employment opportunities etc. This requires students to commit themselves by relocating to Pretoria for the duration of their studies.

Q. What is the typical class size at EMENDY?
A. Classes are structured so as to contain 14 – 16 students. EMENDY’s philosophy is to provide quality education through attention to each student’s personal educational requirements by providing personal attention to each individual ensuring maximum exposure and practical experience.
Q. What are the lecturers at EMENDY like?
A. The lecturers at EMENDY are young, vibrant and all active musicians, producers and or engineers in the music industry..
Q. Will I need a computer or any other equipment for my classes?
A. EMENDY provides the necessary computers and music equipment needed for students to complete their assignments, and projects. Should students wish to complete their additional unscheduled work from home they will have to obtain the necessary hardware and software as recommended. All students are legible to obtain equipment and software for huge student discounts from Orange Music while studying.
Q. Do I need to purchase any additional prescribed course material?
A. All course material and prescribed books are included and no additional or hidden costs are added to the total course costs.
Q. How often will my class schedule change?
A. Once registered you will find placement in a specific timeslot with a fixed schedule for the duration of your course. Should there be any changes to the roster in terms of class days or times you will be notified in advance.
Q. How many hours do my classes consist of per week?
A. Depending on the course you are studying you will attend class accordingly. For more information regarding your specific courses’ roster please refer to the information page of the specific course found here.
Q. How frequently will I be assessed during the course?
A. To maintain our high standard of education we assess students on a regular basis to ensure they fully comprehend the theoretical and practical concepts covered during the lectures. Students will receive weekly assignments, write and complete theoretical and practical tests after completion of each module in all their subjects and complete theoretical and practical examinations after the first and second semesters.
Q. How can I access my course progress on a regular basis?
A. We provide students with an online portal named “SODA” where they have access to student marks, course progress, important announcements as well as information about their lecturers and course details including their financial statements.
Q. How often will I receive course progress reports?
A. Progress reports are generated four times a year (quarterly) and provided to students and or guardians as requested on the registration form.
Q. What other resources does Emendy provide for students during their studies?
A. During your studies you will have access to the internet, a vast variety of music recording and production software and hardware, music industry related books and magazines, lectures from well known music industry specialists, fully equipped recording studios and facilities, access to a database of music industry contacts as well as various means of marketing and promotional tools, forums and websites.
Q. Do I have to book my practical sessions at the college?
A. Yes, in order to make provision for all students to work in the practical and computer labs you will have to book your sessions 24 hours in advance.
Q. Is it important to have good attendance?
A. In order to successfully graduate from EMENDY Sound & Music Technology College, students are required to maintain a 60% average and 80% lecture and lab attendance in all courses.
Q. Will I get vacation breaks during normal school holidays?
A. EMENDY students have three holiday breaks throughout the year that will be announced at the beginning of your course. There will be no class presentations during South African public holidays.

A.  EMENDY’s courses are compiled to cover a wide range of job descriptions. If you successfully complete the qualification according to EMENDY’s requirements, you will be fully geared for the industry. EMENDY’s students find favour from the good reputation we have built in the music industry over the years, however we cannot guarantee employment. Q. Does EMENDY assist students in obtaining exposure in the music industry?

Students get to publish their music on music websites, record labels and other community websites.
